Wood Group is a global leader in project, engineering and technical services, employing over 60,000 people across 60 countries and delivering performance-driven solutions throughout the asset life cycle, from concept to decommissioning. The Group operates across upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas, power and process, environment and infrastructure, clean energy, mining, nuclear, and general industrial sectors.
Its Industrial Services division (WGIS) provides new-build asset support, fabric maintenance and decommissioning services offshore and onshore, across industries including oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, power generation, marine, utilities, transport, infrastructure, and building construction and refurbishment.
Here’s how a no-code order management system replaced the paper and spreadsheets behind a tier two Royal Navy supplier’s operations.
As a tier two supplier to the Royal Navy, WGIS operates in an environment where accuracy, traceability and responsiveness are non-negotiable. Yet many of the business processes supporting this critical relationship, and the wider supply chain, were paper-based and propped up by spreadsheets.
Key stages including enquiry, quotation, order receipt, planning and resourcing, works scheduling and control, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and invoicing were labour-intensive, slow, and prone to human error. For a division striving to deliver an unprecedented customer experience, the gap between ambition and operational reality was widening.
Following a scoping exercise, Builda developed a no-code order management system to automate the end-to-end process from tier one supplier work request through to invoicing. WGIS customers now log in to a secure portal to raise a work request, which automatically triggers pricing based on costs and norms held within the system. Once approved, the no-code order management system schedules the work, allocates resources, and sets completion dates.
Core capabilities include:
Builda‘s no-code order management system allowed the solution to be shaped around WGIS’s existing workflows rather than forcing the business to adapt to off-the-shelf constraints. Development and implementation were delivered with no disruption to the business or its customers, and minimal staff retraining was required thanks to the intuitive nature of Builda’s no-code software.
The Builda no-code order management system delivered tangible improvements across the division:
WGIS can now identify the status of all tasks and expected completion dates, deploy additional resources to meet deadlines, and keep customers informed throughout the lifecycle of their order. Since go-live, Builda has delivered further value-added software to other areas of WGIS, supporting the Group’s wider digitisation and innovation objectives.
“Wood is very happy with Builda’s performance to date and at the time of writing is currently engaged on other new projects with the company. We have no hesitation in recommending Builda‘s technology and services to others.” – Senior Commercial Manager, Wood Group
