If U Care Share Foundation is a North East registered charity dedicated to suicide prevention and to supporting families and young people. Founded in 2005 in memory of Daniel O’Hare, the charity works across two pillars: supporting friends and family bereaved by suicide, and preventing it through education, support, and mentoring.
In 2005, Daniel O’Hare, aged just 19, took his own life. His cousin Sarah, aged 13, and brothers Matthew, aged 10, and Ben, aged 5, formed If U Care Share in his memory, with the aim of preventing other families from suffering a similar devastating experience by encouraging young people to share their problems.
With initial support from a family friend, they went on to raise over £48,000 and build awareness of If U Care Share. The money raised helped fund young people’s projects within the Samaritans’ North East region. Today, If U Care Share Foundation is a registered charity supporting young people across the region.
If U Care Share was operating using paper and spreadsheet-based processes. Running fact finds through these processes was time-consuming and suffered all the usual problems associated with inefficient ways of working, including false data, human error, and a lack of quality information.
For funding purposes, the charity needed to provide facts and figures about the people it was helping, including the quantitative and qualitative benefits it delivered. Not being able to provide this data can compromise funding.
As with any organisation, If U Care Share sought to become leaner and more efficient to maximise its capabilities as a charity. It also wanted to deliver the best possible service to the maximum number of people requiring support.
There are two pillars to the charity: supporting friends and family after someone takes their own life, and preventing the worst possible outcome through education, support, and mentoring activities.
Both sides of the operation rely on a core of relationship management, from liaising with friends and family to coordinating the organisations that facilitate services and funding streams. Excelpoint’s no-code software, Builda manages all of these relationships digitally, so that only the appropriate staff can access highly sensitive information.
The system provides insight from the outcomes of workshops and questionnaires and monitors the progress of the people being supported, automatically generating all the important figures and data required. It translates soft or hard tendencies into quantifiable information to direct resources towards the best outcomes. This is at the heart of the charity, and it contributes to attracting further funding.
Overall, Builda aids the growth of the charity and provides efficient, controlled access to information to help protect the wellbeing of vulnerable clients.
